First Night Alone

Being completely alone in the woods for the first time is a combination of anxiety, fear, and exhilaration. You feel completely in control, yet totally vulnerable.

Every bending and swaying branch evokes fear of the source. The dancing flames of the fire become your only solace.

Self-preservation motivates a level of alertness unmatched. You feel as though for the first time you are truly surviving.

Moon ablaze, smoke twirling, coyotes howling. Oh the beautiful risk of living.

Alone in the woods. Alone in the woods. Alone in the woods.

Untitled (Jeet Kune Do)

Boundless expanse
Strung together for a short while
needn’t try to find any meaning

A path to formlessness:

Water reflecting
Still in one moment
Pounding torrent the next

To transcend the karmic ladder requires proper use of the mind and the will.

“If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.
Moving, be like water. Still, be like a mirror. Respond like an echo.”

“Nothingness cannot be defined; the softest thing cannot be snapped.”

“It is not,’I am doing this,’ but rather, ‘This is happening through me.”

“The consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance to the execution of all physical action”

“The localization of the mind means its freezing.”

“The knowledge and skills you have achieved are meant to be forgotten so you can float comfortably in emptiness, without obstruction.”

On Oneness:
“The oneness of all life is a truth that can be fully realized only when false notions of a separate self, whose destiny can be considered apart from the whole, are forever annihilated.

On Voidness:
That from which all forms emerge.
That which includes all without exclusion or opposition — total oppositelessnes.
To come out of it and realize the living void fills one with life and the love of all beings.

On Liberation:
“Art reaches its greatest peak when devoid of self-consciousness. Freedom discovers a man the moment he loses concern over what impression he is making or is about to make.”

Art gives form to the relationship of man with nothing, with the nature of the absolute. It is a technique for acquiring liberty which is the opening of all capacities to the life-rhythm of the world.

The activity which cuts into a deeper world in which the harmony of soul and cosmos in the nothing has its outcome in reality.

Organized despair

Emptiness of the mind

Choiceless awareness leads to reconcilliation and understanding

Understanding requires not just a moment of perception, but a continuous state of inquiry without conclusion

Becoming devoid to gain totality

Dying to everything of yesterday

Attaining stillness while moving

“Bring the mind into sharp focus and make it alert so that it can immediately intuit truth, which is everywhere.”
“The mind must be emancipated from old habits, prejudices, restrictive thought processes and even ordinary thought itself.”

Punches and kicks are tools to kill the ego.

There is little to the art of Fighting without fighting. Punch when you have to punch. Kick when you have to kick.
You do not choose.

You are neither for nor against.

You have annihilated the impulses caused by the instincts of self-preservation.

“The great mistake is to anticipate the outcome of the engagement; you ought not to be thinking of whether it ends in victory or defeat. Let nature take its course, and your tools will strike at the right moment.”

Your awareness has no frontier.
